This year marks a significant milestone for Jo, who is celebrating 10 years with No1 CopperPot Credit Union. As the Chief Business Development Officer, Jo has played a key role in the Credit Union’s growth and success. Last week, Jo began her maternity leave to embark on an exciting new chapter with her family. As we celebrate her remarkable achievements and wish her all the best, let’s take a moment to reflect on her journey with us.
“When I joined No1 CopperPot, it was a university placement year, and I only expected to stay for 12 months and return to university… little did I know that I would still be here 10 years later!
During my initial 12 months I was able to learn the importance of credit unions and building financial stability through regular saving. I hadn’t had much experience with real debts, or real money management at that stage. I was able to learn good money habits quite early on which I could not onlyutilise myself but could go out into police forces and share with others as we encouraged people to join No1 CopperPot.
I soon learned that No1 CopperPot had so many opportunities to grow and develop. Starting from a small business within GMP Federation in Progress House, it had grown in staff size, building size, asset size and the CEO was keen to develop it further. When I was asked to stay on beyond my initial 12 months, I didn’t take much persuading. The next few years saw the Marketing Team develop, new products launch, new members join, and eventually we went on to projects such as launching an app and developing the website.
It has been a time of continual development for the Credit Union, and from speaking to members it seems clear to them that we are continuing to grow and develop too. Now No1 CopperPot is not only a trusted brand, but it’s also a handy pocket app to help financially support people whether they need it. It makes saving easy and makes borrowing not so scary.
Whilst it may be a cheesy comment, credit unions are all about people helping people and that has what has made me stay within the industry and organisation for so long. It doesn’t seem to be changing either; we seem to be in a path of continual development, and I can’t wait to see where No1 CopperPot goes in the future.
Those 10 years have flown by, and I imagine in another 10 years’ time No1 CopperPot will have double the number of members and will continue to help thousands and thousands of police officers and staff every single year. I can’t imagine working for another organisation which has such a genuinely positive impact on so many people’s lives.”
